Stock trading via TV may soon be a reality

SINGAPORE : Retail traders in Singapore can expect a whole new way to trade stocks - on their TVs. MediaCorp is set to roll out an interactive TV via broadband in the second half of this year, and booking of stock trades using your remote control is just one of the Next Generation Nationwide Broadband Network (NGNBN) services that could be offered by brokerages. Market participants said they are loving the idea. Geoff Howie, sales & markets strategist with MF Global Singapore said: "It's very exciting. If you look at the last 5 years of growth in the Asia region, most of the growth has come from the retail sector and therefore, the fact that MediaCorp is looking at ways to increase the access in Singapore of the retail sector to the trading world is a pretty exciting initiative.
