Manufacturing sector expands, but at a slower rate

The purchasing managers' index (PMI), which points to factory orders in upcoming months, was at 50.5 points in January. This is down 0.2 points from December but a score above 50 indicates expansion in factory output. January was the PMI's fourth consecutive month in positive territory after having dipped below 50 in August and September. The marginal dip last month was attributed to a decline in new export orders as well as lower levels in production and inventory. The PMI and other indices were compiled by the Singapore Institute of Purchasing & Materials Management (SIPMM). The new orders ...
