SingTel top brass in talks with Thai PM - TODAYonline

SINGAPORE - SingTel's top brass - including group chief executive officer Chua Sock Koong and Singapore CEO Allen Lew - flew to Bangkok yesterday and met Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva to "discuss developments in the telecommunications industry in Thailand", the telco said in a press release. The meeting came ahead of possible punitive action by the Thai government against several mobile phone companies in Thailand, including Advanced Info Service (AIS). AIS is majority owned by Shin Corporation, which in turn is 42-per-cent owned by Singapore's Temasek Holdings. SingTel also owns around 21 per cent of AIS. In a statement, Thai state-run phone company TOT said it is seeking 76.4 billion baht ($3.15 billion) from AIS - out of about 214.7 billion baht, which it is pursuing in total as compensation from mostly four private businesses for unpaid access charges and contr...
