POLICE have arrested a man who tried to rob a shop assistant but was foiled by a public-spirited Bangladeshi national. At about 4.45am on Tuesday morning, a 45-year-old woman was manning her shop at Aljunied Road when the suspect entered the shop. The suspect then took out a sharp pointed object and pointed it at the victim, who screamed. Her screams attracted the attention of a Bangladeshi national, Mr Duraraj Babu, who came to the victim's assistance. A scuffle broke out between Mr Babu and the suspect, during which Mr Babu sustained cuts on his upper body. The suspect then fled and Mr Babu was sent to Tan Tock Seng Hospital for treatment, where he has since been discharged. Officers from Bedok Police Division conducted a follow-up investigation, and arrested the suspect at about 10.25pm later that day.
