Remittance is the term for money sent home when working overseas – something that tens of millions of people do every month all around the world. The film is about a Filipina woman who comes to Singapore to work as a maid for an expatriate family. It is not an easy life – she leaves her children behind, works long hours with little free time and is treated as a second class person. However, she also experiences a wide range of possibilities that she has never had before – new friendships, lifestyle and a chance to re-make herself. As she starts to build more of a life for herself in Singapore, she struggles to maintain her family back in the Philippines, leading her to ultimately have to choose between what is best for her and what is best for them.
