BANGKOK, THAILAND - Thai police arrested a high-profile member of the influential "Yellow Shirt" protest movement on Thursday as tensions between the group and the government continued to build. Karoon Saingam was detained on charges relating to the seizure of two Bangkok airports by the Yellows in late 2008 that left more than 300,000 travellers stranded and caused major damage to Thailand's economy. Yellow Shirts are a force to be reckoned with in Thailand's colour-coded politics and have helped to claim the scalps of three governments in under five years, including that of fugitive former premier Thaksin Shinawatra. The movement has been linked to Thailand's ruling Democrat Party in the past, but the relationship appears to have soured.
