Singapore pledges tougher fight on IP rights, piracy: SINGAPORE: Singapore signed an agreement with seven other

SINGAPORE: Singapore signed an agreement with seven other countries to protect intellectual property (IP) rights and fight counterfeiting and piracy. The Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) was signed at a ceremony in Tokyo on Saturday. Singapore was represented by Permanent Secretary for Law, Mr Pang Kin Keong. The other seven signatories are Australia, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Morocco, New Zealand, and the United States. The European Union, Mexico and Switzerland will sign the agreement later. ACTA will come into force after at least six parties have ratified the agreement. Singapore's Ministry of Law said ACTA is a significant achievement in the global fight against infringement of intellectual property rights (IPR) and in particular, the proliferation of counterfeiting and piracy. It said the key elements of ACTA go beyond the standards set by the World Trade...
