SINGAPORE : More people have been engaging the services of Helping Hand - a halfway house for the rehabilitation of ex-drug offenders. On a year-on-year basis, business for its moving services saw an increase of 40 per cent. Currently, half the residents at the halfway house are working in the moving service. The home's gardening services saw a whopping 70 per cent increase in business over the same period. Despite the good response, the voluntary welfare organisation said it is still a challenge overcoming the stigma faced by ex-offenders. So it takes extra care to allay concerns from customers. Chia Shih Sheung, chief executive officer of Helping Hand, said: "So how we ensure there is no theft and no inconveniences is to embed our moving teams with people we trust. So in every moving team, we have at least one or two senior staff to ensure good discipline and good service".
