Ailing persons avoid hospital during LNY period: SINGAPORE : Most family clinics are closed during the Lunar New...

SINGAPORE : Most family clinics are closed during the Lunar New Year but if you have an ailment that needs treatment, doctors advise heading to the nearest A&E, even if it's not life threatening. But the hospital is one place many would like to avoid, as they believe the Lunar New Year is a time for celebration. "There's a group of Chinese who are quite superstitious. It's the older patients who feel that. If you come in the beginning of Lunar New Year, it means you will have bad luck for the rest of year," said Dr Han Gan Hee, Associate Consultant, A&E, Changi General Hospital. But avoiding bad luck at hospitals may be deadly for those who delay urgent treatments, especially for the elderly.
