The unrest in Egypt might be thousands of miles away but for Egyptians here, news of their country in disarray has evoked strong reactions. Mr Gaser Aly, a 38-year-old executive chef who hails from Alexandria, said the unrest in his homeland has spiralled because "so many people are using the events to make trouble". He said: "I believe that it is time for new leadership... President Hosni Mubarak is far from perfect but the rioting is also completely unnecessary." Mr Gaser added that the "media has blown a lot of things out of proportion". "My family is safe and they tell me I don't need to come back home," said Mr Gaser whose children are living in Alexandria. The protest organisers are demanding the ouster of the Mubarak regime and the installation of a new government.
