SINGAPORE - Over the past few days, several elderly - but sprightly - residents of Chinatown have been peddling fortune cookies they packed themselves. The "Cookies for Charity" programme - an initiative led by the Kreta Ayer-Kim Seng Citizens' Consultative Committee and Asia Pacific Breweries Singapore - raised $25,000, exceeding its target by $5,000. The money raised will help the seniors and other underprivileged residents of Chinatown meet their daily expenses for food and provisions. Ms Alina Boey, who heads the programme, said: "I'm blown away by the energy of the seniors. They come by after their morning exercise, they come by in the evenings and they're very excited at having an activity like this." And the public has shown its support.
