Former asthma-sufferer completes 365 marathons in 365 days

A former asthma-sufferer completed his 365th marathon in 365 days on Saturday. Belgian runner Stefaan Engels, 49, began his challenge a year ago in Barcelona, Spain and finished his last race in the same city. Running a marathon a day in seven countries - Spain, Portugal, Belgium, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada and Mexico - he averaged four hours to complete each race and covered a total of 15,000km. Mr Engels, dubbed the "Marathon Man", said he did it as a personal challenge and to inspire others. "I wanted to show people that if I could run a marathon a day for an entire year, then anyone could run or bike a little each day or do something about their weight problem," said Mr Engels, who suffered from asthma as a child. "I don't regard my marathon year as torture. It is more like a regular job," he added.
