Curriculum for MOE Kindergartens to have distinct S'pore flavour

SINGAPORE: When the five MOE (Ministry of Education) Kindergartens begin operations next January, it will be rolling out a curriculum with a distinct Singaporean flavour. The curriculum will feature two flagship programmes -- one to nurture the child's early bilingual skills, and the other to develop the child holistically. A happy, curious and confident child -- that is something the Education Ministry hopes for at the end of kindergarten. Thus, children attending the MOE Kindergartens will learn through stories, songs, games and dances -- all with a local flavour. Under the Starlight Literacy Programme, they will learn English and their Mother Tongue language -- Mandarin, Malay or Tamil -- through the use of big picture books, called "Big Books".
