World Orchid Conference returns to S'pore

SINGAPORE: The World Orchid Conference returns to Singapore after 48 years. The theme for the conference will be: "Where Old World and New World Orchids Meet". The event will take place from November 13 to 20. At the Botanic Gardens on Saturday, the official mascot of the event made a special appearance and performed a special song for the conference. Vernon Lewis, also known as "Orchid Man", was stalking passers-by while decked out in a costume based on the Vanda genus species. His desire to become "Orchid Man" came from his love of orchids, and he was interested in seeing the reaction of people coming face to face with a 1.88 metre man dressed as an orchid. Lewis lived in the US before moving to Singapore early this year. -CNA/ac
