Over 17000 detained in China crime crackdown
More than 17,000 suspects were detained during a nationwide crackdown on illegal food production, gambling, drug trafficking and other offences, Chinese state media reported yesterday. According to Xinhua news agency, China's Ministry of Public Security has shut down 7,165 venues used for illegal activity thus far. The campaign was launched on Aug 22 to eliminate illegal food producers and vendors, factories producing counterfeit goods and markets built for the disposal of stolen goods, pornography, gambling and drug trafficking.
