Government to introduce rules to ensure property developers build showflats that reflect actual homes

SINGAPORE - The Government plans to introduce new rules to ensure that property developers build showflats that accurately reflect the actual homes sold during construction phase, the Business Times has reported. Citing unnamed sources, BT said the move by the Ministry of National Development (MND) is aimed at ensuring that buyers are not misled by the interior design work at showflats, which developers build to attract buyers before a residential project is completed. With the new rules, developers will not be allowed to leave out structural walls and columns from their showflats if completed units in the proposed development have these features, BT said. Structural walls in showflats will have to be of the same thickness as those in the actual homes.
