Singapore boxing aims to beat the count

SINGAPORE - The last time the Republic won a boxing gold medal at the SEA Games was at Bangkok in 1985, when Mohd Mukhlis took the men's welterweight crown. Singapore could host the SEA Games in 2015, with the $1.33 billion Sports Hub as the centrepiece venue. And if that happens, Singapore Amateur Boxing Association (Saba) president Syed Abdul Kadir, who last month became a member of the International Boxing Association's (Aiba) influential rules and technical committee, believes it would be a fitting time to end barren run. "If we do host the (SEA) Games in 2015, then we definitely want to do well and make everyone proud by winning as hosts," Kadir, 63 this month, told MediaCorp recently.
