Read our lips: There's no pass/fail quota for driving test, Traffic Police clarify

I refer to Mr Neil Wilkinson's letter "Quota for road tests?" (Oct 3). Traffic Police do not limit the number of passing candidates for the driving competency test. The test is an assessment of the candidate's driving knowledge and skill. The criteria for passing are specified to all candidates. The reasons for their passing or failure are also communicated to candidates at the end of the practical test so that they can take stock of their strengths and weaknesses. The average waiting time for a test date is less than two months. However, there are occasions when a surge in demand will result in a longer waiting period. Traffic Police would like to advise learner motorists not to rush to take the driving competency test.
