On Friday 14 October 2011, 22:39 SGT US Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner suggested Friday that there could be more arrests and criminal charges ahead arising from the 2007-2008 US financial crisis. Amid mounting protests over why US bankers and investment chiefs had not been punished for their role in taking the economy near collapse, Geithner was asked in a CNBC television interview why no one had been hit with criminal charges. "You've seen very, very dramatic enforcement actions, and I'm sure you're going to see more to come," Geithner said. "You should stay tuned for that." The US Justice Department has filed charges against dozens of officials from smaller banks and mortgage lenders over fraudulent practices that contributed to the crisis, which sent the country into a deep recession in 2008-2009 and left 14 million people jobless today.
