Tripartite partners yet to agree on fair employment guidelines: By Sharon See | Posted: 14 October 2011 2223 hrs...

SINGAPORE: Singapore's employers federation and unions have yet to agree on guidelines on fair employment opportunities. In his National Day Rally speech in August, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong had called on tripartite partners to develop guidelines to ensure Singaporeans have fair opportunities in employment. The Singapore National Employers Federation (SNEF) and the labour movement (NTUC) have been gathering feedback on what the guidelines on fair employment opportunities for Singaporeans should be. And though consultation is expected to conclude by October 24, the tripartite partners have yet to reach an agreement. SNEF said with unemployment rate relatively low in Singapore at 3 per cent, the emphasis should be on training and better job matching.
