Charles J Tan is a contemporary Australian Asian artist with a distinct flavour. His music is influenced by the accessible folk pop of Jack Johnson, the blues of John Mayer and the poetic sensibilities of Tracy Chapman. In 2009, the Singapore-born musician won the Melbourne Storytellers' Competition, beating 25 other singer-songwriters. Last year, he was also nominated one of the Top 50 Acoustic/Singer-Songwriter at the Australia-wide MusicOz Awards 2010. Charles, who has also performed in Nashville, Tennessee, recently released an 8-track EP, The Pelham Sessions. The talented musician with soulful vocals stops by the studio and shares with us his musical journey.
