SINGAPORE - The finance and insurance sector, particularly commercial banks, proved to be the deadweight that dragged customer satisfaction levels to a record low, last year. But one way companies can improve customer satisfaction is by better handling complaints, according to an annual study by the Singapore Management University. The Customer Satisfaction Index of Singapore for 2010 fell 0.8 points on-year to 67.2, SMU's Institute of Service Excellence (ISES) said yesterday. The highest score (68.7) was in 2007, when ISES started measuring customer satisfaction. The finance and insurance sector's 1.6 point dip appeared the most culpable for the index's poor showing - the sector represented nearly 42 per cent of the study, due to its contribution to gross domestic product.
