SINGAPORE - The police will introduce more closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in local neighbourhoods to help prevent and solve crime. A new police land division will also be set up in Woodlands, along with two Neighbourhood Police Centres at Punggol and Woodlands West, to cope with rising demands from a larger, more diverse population. These initiatives were revealed yesterday by Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean in an addendum to the President's address during the opening of Parliament. While crime "remains under control", Mr Teo - who is also Home Affairs Minister - felt there are issues to be addressed. Youth gangs "remain a serious concern", while loan-sharking syndicates have grown bolder and are employing more dangerous tactics.
