Used tissue paper is a menace and nightmare for cleaners at hawker centres, says our reader.

THERE were debates recently about diners reserving seats with packs of tissue papers. Of much concern is the menace of used tissue paper, which is a nightmare for cleaners at hawker centres. They are left everywhere on tables, plates, chairs and floors, even though such acts are considered littering, a punishable offence. There should be education and strict enforcement to require such litterbugs to take their used tissues to the nearest trash bins. Food trays are unhygienic too. In the past, they were washed with cleaning solution and some with warm water as well. Currently, trays are not washed. People spit bones and other food debris onto them, and the cleaner or stallholder simply wipes them with an unclean tablecloth and puts them back to use.
