11.6 million tourists visited Singapore in 2010, spending an estimated S$18.8 billion

SINGAPORE has hit its target of 11.5 million to 12.5 million tourist arrivals in 2010: It attracted 11.6 million visitors to its shores. Tourism receipts were estimated at $18.8 billion, exceeding the year's forecast range of $17.5 billion to $18.5 billion. Shopping, sightseeing and entertainment and accommodation made up 61 per cent of tourism receipts. The record number of tourist arrivals for the year was buoyed by a strong month of December, where visitor arrivals to Singapore reached 1,127,000. This is the highest number of arrivals ever recorded in a single month and marks only the second month in 2010 in which visitors exceeded 1 million. The top visitor arrival markets for the year are Indonesia, Malaysia, China, Australia and India.
