Are you getting the recommended 7 hours of sleep every night?

TOKYO - Office workers in the Japanese capital slept at least 30 minutes less than their counterparts in New York, Paris, Shanghai and Stockholm each night, averaging six hours, or 14 per cent less than the recommended minimum, a study said. The survey involved 180 men and women from each of the five cities, who were 30 to 60 years old. Workers in Tokyo went to bed at 12.18 am on average. They got 36 minutes less sleep than New Yorkers and 54 minutes less than Parisians. Only 23 per cent of Japanese got more than seven hours of sleep. Japanese workers attributed their sleep trouble to work and personal stress, outdoor noise and the weather, among other reasons. The study was conducted by Stanford University and Ajinomoto, a Japanese foodmaker that sells a sleep supplement called Glyna.
