MFA advisory to Singaporeans in Bangkok

SINGAPORE - Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has issued a statement asking Singaporeans in Bangkok to move to higher ground or areas unaffected by flooding. This follows Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra's command to open the city's floodgates so that water can be drained into the sea, after declaring the flood situation in Bangkok a "national crisis". The MFA also advises Singaporeans to defer non-essential travel to Bangkok until the flood situation improves. In its statement on Thursday, MFA said that given the severity of the situation, the Singapore Embassy in Bangkok has been advising Singaporeans there to take all necessary precautions and will provide them consular assistance.
