SINGAPOREANS don't know how to speak Mandarin properly, claimed local actor Ix Shen. In fact, they are so bad at it that no native speaker beyond our shores will be able to understand them. Our so-called butchering of the language was something that became painfully obvious to him when he relocated to Beijing, China in early 2009 to further his acting career. When the 40-year-old spoke to the media on Wednesday, it was noticeable that his Mandarin has improved by leaps and bounds. He was in town to promote Channel 8's new drama The Oath, his first leading role on local television since his departure from the station. More in The New Paper on Friday (Oct 21).
