NCPG to expand services to gambling addicts

SINGAPORE: The National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG) is expanding its services to include not just counselling, but also financial and credit services. In an update to Parliament on Friday, Acting Community Development, Youth & Sports Minister Chan Chun Sing said his ministry is also monitoring casino advertisements to ensure they do not glamourise gaming. Latest figures show that as of 30 September, 29,000 people have applied to ban themselves from Singapore's two casinos, up from 18,000 as of June. 22,700 Exclusion Orders were issued to foreign workers. Another 750 Family Exclusion Orders have also been issued. Between January and August, nearly 570 addicts sought help at Tanjong Pagar Family Service Centre and the National Addictions Management Service, nearly double the 304 addicts in 2008.
