68,143 PR applications rejected last year

SINGAPORE: Last year, 68,143 Permanent Residence (PR) applications were rejected, up from 58,923 in 2009. In 2008, 22,472 PR applications were rejected. The figures were contained in a written reply by Deputy Prime Minister and Home Affairs Minister Teo Chee Hean to MP for Aljunied GRC Pritam Singh who had asked how many applications for PR have been rejected and the specific criteria for approval of such applications. Mr Teo said each PR application is evaluated holistically on a set of criteria - which includes factors such as an individual's economic contributions, qualifications, age and family profile - to assess applicants' ability to contribute and integrate well into society.
