Water-themed performances planned for Chingay 2012
SINGAPORE: Fans of the annual Chingay Parade can look forward to having a splashing good time as the event celebrates its 40th anniversary by performing on water for the first time, next year. Performers will be doing a Tai Chi fan dance on a 360-metre long water platform made of six giant rubber pools joined together. The water used in the performance will be drawn from the Marina Reservoir and returned to the water catchment after the parade. Although the water level is only eight centimetres high, it still pays to be careful. Performers will be wearing special shoes used for water sports. People's Association chief, Mr Yam Ah Mee tried the pool out himself, to make sure performers will have nothing more than a rolling good time. "With the anti-slip materials on the water platform... it's almost no different from walking on a normal pathway," said Mr Yam.
