MS LIEW Mei Yan is 25, single, and not quite looking forward to Valentine's Day. Right around this time of the year, while other young women are dreaming of a romantic date with their partners, Ms Liew must work extra hard to put together thousands of rose bouquets which men will buy for other women. Ms Liew hasn't had a boyfriend for 5 years. 'I'll be spending Valentine's Day with my colleagues and the flowers,' she half-jokes. Ms Liew is an employee at Noel Gifts, a gift company that usually has to double the number of staff days before Valentine's Day to cope with the surge in demand. The company's record is a bumper sale of almost 6,000 bouquets in one day. Not surprisingly, prices of roses typically increase by as much as 40 to 50 per cent during this period.
