More Chinese students turning to non-traditional study destinations: BEIJING: The United States, United Kingdom

BEIJING: The United States, United Kingdom and and Australia are popular study destinations for Chinese students. An estimated 180,000 Chinese students go overseas to study every year but more are now turning to non-traditional destinations. One of them is 22-year-old Sun Yifan who has her sights set on attending a film academy in Poland, a country which is generally viewed as an unusual study destination. "I choose Poland as I have a strong interest in filmmaking. Being in Poland also makes it easier for me to visit other European countries." To study there, Sun will need to spend one year studying Polish. However, the cost of doing so, inclusive of her three-year tertiary education, is only one-third of what she would pay if she were to study in the US, UK, Australia or Canada.
