SINGAPORE: Aspiring student pilots can look forward to a brand new fleet of trainer aircraft at the Singapore Youth Flying Club. The club offers flying as a co-curricular activity to secondary school, Junior College and Polytechnic students for free. The Piper Warriors that have served the Flying Club's training needs for more than twenty years will be replaced with 13 Diamond DA 40s which aim to sharpen the skills of its student pilots. The aircraft features a "Full Glass-Cockpit" that gives the pilot flight and systems information on two full-colour, flat panel displays. Daniel Tan, Chief Flying Instructor with the Singapore Youth Flying Club, said: "It senses the wind, the temperature, it puts all this information together and gives you your speed, your height, your altitude, your geographical position, so a 3D position of where exactly you are on earth."
