Charles Hanson, of Hansons Auctioneers, said on Thursday that bids for the relic - which he claimed had been chiseled from the infamous monument - failed to meet a six-figure reserve price. Offers for the artifact, obtained by ex-British special forces soldier Nigel Ely after American soldiers toppled the bronze statue in Baghdad in April 2003, reached 21,000 pounds (S$42,000). The piece of metal, about 2 feet by 2 feet (0.76m by 0.76m), went on sale at an auction in the central England city of Derby.
