More employers urged to send their maids for training courses: SINGAPORE: Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Edu...

SINGAPORE: Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Education and Manpower Hawazi Daipi has called for more employers to send their maids for training courses. He said Foreign Domestic Workers (FDW) could learn new skills and knowledge, and also build a social support network during their employment here. Mr Hawazi was speaking at a graduation ceremony for foreign domestic workers who had attended courses at the Mujahidah Learning Centre. English, computer literacy and even hairstyling are some of the courses provided by Mujahidah Leaning Centre for Indonesian domestic workers. They have to attend the courses on a weekly or fortnightly basis for six months and receive a certificate upon completion of the courses. The learning centre, which is under the Mujahidin Mosque, had only 35 participants when it was first set up in 2005. But now, about 6,000 of them have enrolled at the c...
