IDA proposes changes to increase mobile coverage

Chief among them is a requirement for all building owners to set aside additional space for equipment in their premises, which would result in better mobile coverage. -- ST PHOTO: ALPHONSUS CHERN By Daryl Chin The Infocomm Development Authority has put out a proposal to upgrade the digital infrastructure for commercial buildings and homes, to fit the changing needs of consumers. Chief among them is a requirement for all building owners to set aside additional space for equipment in their premises, which would result in better mobile coverage. Previously, such spaces are are negotiated commercially and are dependent on availability. There will also be a requirement for developers and owners of new buildings to have optical fibre cables within the building. The current requirements are copper wires, which have less data capacity.
