Taekwondo pioneer makes return trip to S'pore

SINGAPORE: Many may not be familiar with him, but Master Kim Bok Man is responsible for introducing Taekwondo to Singapore in the 1960s. The 78-year-old Korean, who has an 11th Dan Black Belt, said he was invited by then prime minister Lee Kuan Yew to pioneer the martial art here. Master Kim brought Taekwondo to Singapore in 1963. The overwhelming response saw him staying on for a year to teach. He returned five years later with other instructors to conduct demonstrations. For his latest trip in September this year, he held a clinic and met Singapore Taekwondo Federation officials. "In case they say ask me to come down to teaching the national team, for the World Taekwondo Championship or something like the Olympics Taekwondo championship, I'll like to them to get a gold medal. We can do that, why not? That's not impossible," said Master Kim, Roving Ambassador of Taekwondo...
