SINGAPORE - Enter a search term into Google, hit enter and page upon page of relevant links show up in less than a blink of an eye. It's something that several million people do on a daily basis, without much fuss. But under the smooth, polished surface, the gears are whirring away endlessly, with large teams of engineers, evaluators and testers worldwide continually honing the world's largest search engine so that it delivers better, more relevant results. "If you're a Google user, you have probably been in an experiment of some kind, because on any given day we are running something like a hundred to two hundred experiments in different areas," said Google's search engineering director Scott Huffman, who spoke to us a day before Google rolled out an improved search algorithm tweaked to give users "fresher" results.
