New Zealand need not fear Australian dominance: PM

WELLINGTON : New Zealand has no reason to fear Australia's dominating its economy, Prime Minister John Key said Wednesday after inking a deal allowing a huge boost in trans-Tasman investment. Key acknowledged some New Zealanders would be nervous about allowing Australian companies more scope to invest in the economy but said the move would create jobs and opportunities. "I think from an Australia-New Zealand perspective, we're stronger because of the ability to invest in each others' economies," he said after signing an investment agreement with visiting Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard. "Foreign investment always has its detractors, we have to acknowledge that, but I believe that it's enhanced New Zealand's economic growth," he told reporters.
