SRC sending inflatable boats to Thailand

SINGAPORE : Red Cross Societies from Southeast Asia will meet later in the month to discuss how they can work more closely in areas of disaster response. Southeast Asian countries like Cambodia and Thailand are currently facing their most severe flooding in years. The Singapore Red Cross (SRC) on Tuesday also donated 18 inflatable rubber boats to the Thai Red Cross. The boats cost a total of S$50,000. Each boat can carry as much as 560 kilogrammes. Officials said the 3.3 metre long boat will be used for evacuation and re-supplying purposes. Typically, the boats are used by the Navy and the PUB to patrol waterways. The SRC has already raised S$530,166 for the South East Asia Floods Appeal. S$200,000 has been given to Thailand and Cambodia for the purchase and distribution of food, relief kits and essential supplies. SRC aims to raise S$1 million by the end of November. The ...
