Using community sports to engage residents: SINGAPORE : Minister in the Prime Minister's Office, Lim Boon Heng,

SINGAPORE : Minister in the Prime Minister's Office, Lim Boon Heng, has urged grassroots organisations to leverage on community sports to bring the people together and to promote neighbourliness. Mr Lim, who is also deputy chairman of the People's Association, said the association aims to reach one in five residents by 2015 through community sports. Speaking at the 35th anniversary of Singapore's Constituency Sports Clubs, Mr Lim renamed them "Community Sports Clubs". He unveiled a three-pronged plan for grassroots organisations to use sports to reach more residents. The first is to build a pool of highly-competent and passionate volunteers through training programmes. The second is to expand the sports on offer by targeting interest groups such as children or youth. The third is to strengthen partnerships with grassroots organisations and community partners.
