Life insurance sales continued to climb in the third quarter, driven mostly by banks selling products, a process known as bancassurance. New business grew by 18 per cent in the three months up to Sept 30, with $523 million in additional weighted premiums. The first nine months saw even more buoyant sales, with weighted new business premiums of $1.46 billion, up 30 per cent on the same period last year. Background story New health insurance sales increased 7 per cent to $123 million, compared with the first nine months of last year. Bancassurance contributed 35 per cent towards this new business, up from 27 per cent in the first nine months of last year.
