[CNA] Ballot papers for May GE to be destroyed

SINGAPORE: Ballot papers and other documents used in the recent May General Election will be destroyed at the Tuas South Incineration Plant on Saturday. According to the Parliamentary Elections Act, the ballot papers and other documents used in the election are retained, sealed and kept in safe custody for a period of six months. They are then destroyed unless otherwise directed by order of the President. This is to ensure secrecy of the vote. The Elections Department said all sealed boxes containing ballot papers and other documents used in the General Election will be transported from the Supreme Court to the Tuas South Incineration Plant for destruction by incineration on November 12.
