Canoeists win first SEA Games medals for Singapore

JAKARTA - Singapore has won its first medals of the 2011 SEA Games. National canoeist Lucas Teo, 21, finished second in the men's 1,000m K1 event in a time of 3min59.54seconds, just over five seconds behind Thailand's Wichan Jaitieng. The Republic also bagged another two bronzes on the first day of competition of the canoe event at the Cipule Lake in the West Java province. The pair of Brandon Ooi and Daniel Ang were third in the 1,000m K2 race. Teo and Ang then partnered Tay Zi Qiang and Muhammad Syaheenul Aiman for another third-place finish in the 1,000 K4 race.
