HONOLULU - A more educated and assertive population will present challenges for governments as Asia grows, said Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. Speaking at a dialogue session at the opening of the CEO Summit on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) meeting in Honolulu, Mr Lee cited Singapore as an example. "You look at issues that we have as our population becomes more educated," Mr Lee said. "We are a tiny little island; we need facilities. Everybody needs these facilities but when you put them in a particular neighbourhood ... I can understand these sentiments and, at the same time, if nobody wants to put them downstairs, there is no place to put them."
