DTN Singapore: Budget 2011: Enterprise Development Fund to get S$850m: SINGAPORE: To support higher productivity...

SINGAPORE: To support higher productivity and groom globally competitive companies, the government has announced it will commit S$850 million in grants under the Enterprise Development Fund (EDF) over the next five years. The government has also pledged to top up the National Research Fund by S$1 billion this year, with an increasing share going towards supporting private sector research and development activity and commercialisation. The EDF, to be administered by SPRING and IE Singapore, is a 45 per cent increase from the previous five-year tranche. The fund will "favour companies that are more dynamic and innovative" according to Finance Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam. One of the priorities of the EDF will be to help high-growth enterprises in their overseas expansion, by helping companies defray costs when they enter into new markets in the region and elsewhere.
