ALL Singaporeans aged 45 and above will receive a top-up by the government in their CPF Medisave accounts, Finance Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam announced in his budget speech on Friday. Up to 1.3 million Singaporeans will benefit from these top-ups, costing the government $500 million. For instance, those aged between 45 and 49 will receive up to $300 and those between 50 to 59 will get $400. Needy Singaporeans who are unable to pay their medical bills even after using their Medisave and Medishield will have more money to draw from through Medifund. Currently at $1.9 billion, another $500 million will be added to it. 'In addition, the government will raise the target size of the Medifund endowment from $2 billion to $3 billion,' Mr Shanmugaratnam added.
