SINGAPORE: The average Singaporean household will receive about S$3,000 from this year's budget, said the Finance Minister, but lower-income households will get more. For 30-year old housewife Zuridah Yahya, this news is welcome. She has five children, three in childcare and two in primary school, and the family relies on her 41-year old husband who works as a driver - and his S$1,300 monthly income. The family lives in a 5-room flat in Jurong, and Madam Zuridah said meeting household expenses can be a challenge. Mrs Zuridah said: "Since my husband alone is working, we are quite dependent on him. After paying school fees, for the basic needs like the pampers, milk powder and everything, we don't have much for our savings." The family is already receiving help, such as subsidies to their power supply, from schemes offered by the SouthWest Community Development Council. This...
