Thai politicians use social media to reach out to voters - TODAYonline #socialmedia

Thai politicians are using spiking Internet penetration rates to reach out to voters. According to the National Electronics and Computer Technology Centre, there are 18 million Internet users in Thailand now - a figure that will hit 24 million this year - and major political parties are turning to social media, The Nation newspaper reported. For example, the Democrats - party of Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva - launched "Future Thai Leaders" on Facebook. The recruiting campaign has drawn more than 1,300 fans. Each Member of Parliament in the party will also have a Facebook or Twitter account to keep in touch with the electorate. Sixty of its MPs already are using Twitter, Facebook or YouTube to connect with voters and Mr Abhisit has garnered 568,160 "Likes" on his Facebook page.
